Evaluating Support Capacity Before a Seasonal Surge
How a contact center account executive can examine holiday demand without making staffing commitments.
A seasonal forecast is useful only when the customer explains what it includes. An account executive can turn an urgent capacity request into an evaluation by learning the forecast inputs, operating rules, and decisions that remain open.
Rina, an operations executive, says, “Holiday volume may double. Can you cover every spike?” Omar responds, “I would first want to understand how the forecast was built. Does it include planned marketing activity and the contact reasons that usually rise?” Rina says the marketing campaign is missing and two BPO partners use different escalation rules. Omar says, “Those factors affect the assessment. Could workforce management, marketing, and the partner leads review volumes, escalation paths, and the measures you would use to judge readiness?” Rina adds, “We need a go live date today.” Omar replies, “A date needs the agreed scope and review findings. We can set the assessment session now and identify the decisions that determine timing.”
Ask how supervisors discover a queue problem, how overflow is authorized, and who updates agents when priorities change. Record assumptions beside each forecast figure. That small discipline gives everyone a place to correct an estimate before it becomes a commitment.
For a coaching drill, give the seller a forecast with one missing input and a buyer who presses for certainty. Review whether the seller asks for the missing source, identifies the owners, and proposes criteria for the assessment. The next step should have an agenda and named participants.
