Find the Owner of a Security Awareness Conversation
Help SDRs route employee security questions to the responsible leader.
Security awareness is rarely owned by one title. Security may define risk content, HR may manage learning systems, communications may shape messages, and business leaders may reinforce behavior. A security SDR should discover the operating owner before asking for a meeting.
Ask which employee behavior the team is trying to improve and what happens after someone reports a suspicious message. The answer can reveal whether the issue involves reporting, feedback, training cadence, or a handoff between teams.
At a fictional accounting firm, a security practitioner says employees submit reports but rarely hear whether the report helped. The SDR can ask who owns that feedback loop and whether a short conversation with the program leader would be useful. The practitioner may not own budget.
Do not infer that the customer has a weak awareness program from a public incident or a broad statement. The SDR needs context before proposing a conversation.
Practice a prospect saying, “HR owns training.” The SDR should ask who owns the reporting experience and whether HR and security review it together. They should not launch into features.
