Set Up a Secure Proof of Concept That a Security Team Can Trust
Build a bounded POC with approved access, evidence, and decision criteria.
A fast proof of concept can still be disciplined. Before requesting logs, credentials, agents, or connectivity, the solutions engineer should learn the customer’s access rules. A technical test that bypasses policy can create more doubt than useful evidence.
Start with one use case. Ask what result would let the evaluation group advance, what environment is approved, and who can confirm the result. Define the input data, the expected observation, and the review date.
For a fictional manufacturer, the team might test alerts from a nonproduction cloud account with a security architect present. The customer chooses permissions. Record each unavailable signal as a limitation. Do not bridge it with an assumption.
Name a business sponsor as well as a technical owner. A POC can prove a workflow, but the buyer still needs a decision path after the test. Confirm how the evidence will be shared with other stakeholders.
Practice explaining an access request in plain language: what is requested, why it is needed, who reviews it, and when it changes. Let a mock architect challenge every vague answer.
