Lead an Account Recovery Review After Paving Downtime
Gather service facts and assign owners without deciding cause or compensation too early.
Repeated downtime during a paving window deserves urgent attention, yet an account manager should not guess at cause or compensation. Start with the unit numbers, machine hours, issue times, operator changes, service contacts, and the work impact. These records give the service manager a basis for diagnosis and give commercial reviewers a basis for later decisions.
Cal, an operations vice president, said, “Who will cover our lost production? Can you promise this will never happen again?” Amina replied, “I hear the impact. I need to separate the incident facts from the commercial review. Two reports are missing machine hours. Can your superintendent and our service manager complete that record today?” Cal agreed. Amina added, “I will chair a recovery call tomorrow with service, your site lead, and the branch manager. We will review the records, assign the immediate service owner, and identify who handles the commercial question.”
This response gives Cal a route to action while preserving a fair review. It avoids tying a service investigation to a conclusion before the evidence is available. The account manager remains accountable for the customer communication throughout the process.
Use three past service tickets to rehearse a recovery call opening. Identify the missing fact in each ticket, then say the escalation path without assigning blame. A coach can score whether the speaker acknowledged impact, requested evidence, and set a date for the next customer update.
