Handle a Roof and Gutter Overflow Call
Gather safety and property details when roof runoff reaches a home entrance.
When rainwater pours over a gutter near a front door, the homeowner may ask for an immediate explanation. The advisor’s work is to understand the impact and place the request on the appropriate path. Ask whether water is entering the home, whether the walkway is affected, whether anyone has been injured, and where the overflow occurs. A roof or drainage inspection can determine the condition. Phone observations cannot establish the source or repair scope.
Martin called during a storm and said, “Water is falling like a waterfall beside our steps. Is the roof coming apart?” Advisor Jo replied, “I can help document the location and arrange the right review. Is water entering through the roof, or is the concern outside at the gutter line?” Martin said it was outside but the steps were slick. Jo said, “Please use your household safety judgment around the wet steps. I will mark the access concern for the scheduling team and ask about the inspection availability after conditions allow safe work.” Martin then asked for a price. Jo explained that the team needs to inspect before it can discuss work and cost.
Record the affected entry, the rain conditions, access limitations, photos the homeowner offers to share through an approved channel, and any prior service history. Do not ask the customer to climb, clear, or inspect the roof. Weather and site conditions may change the appointment plan, so explain how the homeowner will receive the next update. In roleplay, have a colleague press for a diagnosis three times. Keep returning to impact, inspection facts, and the confirmed contact path.
