Review a Component Last Time Buy With Demand Scenarios

A last time buy notice forces a buyer to make a decision before every uncertainty is resolved. A procurement specialist can improve the choice by separating confirmed product demand, service estimates, redesign work, and storage constraints into visible scenarios.

In a fictional call, commodity buyer Leo asks, “How many years should we buy? Can you guarantee the redesign will be ready?” Specialist Noor replies, “The supplier notice gives us a deadline, yet the quantity depends on demand we can support. Which part of the forecast is confirmed production demand, and which part is the service estimate?” Leo says the service figure has not been verified and engineering has no redesign release date. Noor says, “Let’s review the notice, demand forecast, and engineering change status with the aftermarket planner and finance analyst. We can define scenarios and identify the quantities that require their approval.”

Noor does not replace uncertainty with an arbitrary number. The scenarios show the buyer where an assumption enters the decision and who can validate it before cash and storage are committed.

Practice by handing the rep a notice and a forecast with one unmarked service line. The rep should ask what supports each demand line and who owns redesign timing. A manager can review whether the close establishes a decision date, finance participation, and a documented set of assumptions for the sourcing approval.
