A market access manager can learn how the pathway is reviewed, which evidence standards apply, and who makes the final decision. The manager should not recommend placement or frame the exchange as a substitute for the system’s clinical review.

Ask when the pathway is being revised, whether clinical leadership or a committee owns the decision, and what written materials the policy analyst needs. These questions help separate process from product advocacy. If the director requests a scientific interpretation, coordinate the appropriate medical resource and keep the access conversation within its own purpose.

In a fictional meeting, the director says, “Can you tell us where to place it?” The manager responds, “Your system should determine placement through its established review. I can help clarify the evidence request and make sure the right approved resources reach the reviewers. Which committee and policy owner need to see the materials?” The director identifies a pharmacy committee and a clinical governance lead, then asks for cited documents before their next review.
