Handle a Request to Change a Lease Cosigner
Give leasing consultants a clear way to collect a cosigner change request and explain the authorized review path.
A request to replace or remove a cosigner carries more than a contact update. The consultant should establish which residents and cosigner are named in the current record, what change the caller wants, and when it matters. Then explain the property’s approved submission process without offering an answer that only an authorized reviewer can make.
Tariq calls because his mother cosigned his apartment while he was in school. “I have a new job now, so can you remove her before she travels overseas next week?” he asks consultant Val. Val says, “I can show you the request form and tell the review team that timing matters. I need to confirm the lease number, the people currently listed, and the contact you want us to use.” Tariq says his mother has already changed her mailing address. Val updates no lease terms during the call. She sends the form through the designated channel, identifies the documents requested by the current process, and explains that all required parties may need to participate.
Val does not discuss Tariq’s screening information, predict a decision, or tell his mother that she has been released. If the request raises a question about the agreement, the designated team or qualified adviser can address it. Her follow-up message states the submission deadline, the records requested, and the team that will respond. It also gives Tariq a way to correct a contact detail without placing private information in a voicemail.
In roleplay, make the caller insist that steady employment settles the request. The consultant should acknowledge the urgency, identify the submitted change, and state the next action. A manager can assess whether the consultant kept the conversation focused on accurate records and a consistent process. The resident should leave knowing what to submit and when to expect an update.
