Prepare Procurement Discovery for a Coaching Program
Clarify commercial process without asking procurement to judge enablement outcomes.
Procurement can shape an evaluation long before a commercial conversation starts. The account executive needs to understand its sequence, documents, and approval points while keeping the enablement sponsor responsible for program value. A respectful early conversation prevents a business case from arriving after the buying window has closed.
Grace tells the sourcing manager, “The enablement team is defining a pilot. I would like to understand your process so they can plan responsibly.” He says, “We need security review before an agreement and finance will ask about scope.” Grace asks, “At what point do you need those materials, and who confirms the business sponsor’s decision?” He explains that procurement joins after the sponsor selects an approach, while security can begin earlier if the customer has approved vendor documentation.
Ask about sequence before asking for terms. Learn the likely approval groups, standard documents, renewal implications, and target decision date. Summarize what you heard in an email the buyer can correct. Do not infer that a sourcing manager has accepted a scope, price, or technical position. Those decisions need their own authorized review.
Practice with someone acting as a procurement lead who answers every question with, “Send your proposal.” Open by explaining that you want to align the evaluation with their process. Ask for one milestone, one document, and one decision owner. Review the recording or your notes for vague promises. In the live account, send a concise process recap and ask the sponsor to confirm where enablement and procurement handoffs occur.
