Customer Success Manager: Procurement Concession
A practical conversation for a customer success manager managing procurement concession.
A procurement request for a concession needs a clear separation between service recovery, contract authority, and renewal value. A CSM can gather facts without inventing commercial terms.
Kim hears, “Give us a credit because adoption is late.” She says, “I can document the launch history and bring the appropriate commercial owner. Which missed commitment has affected your team most?” The buyer names delayed manager training.
Record the requested remedy, the relevant delivery facts, and the people authorized to decide terms. Practice explaining that route to a procurement lead who presses for an answer. Then review the account timeline for a service action that can proceed while the commercial request is evaluated.
The CSM’s decision is about what can be addressed now and what requires commercial authority. A delayed training session for managers may justify an immediate recovery plan: identify the missed delivery, offer available dates, and confirm who can attend. A request for a credit or changed term belongs with the person authorized to evaluate contract remedies. Keeping those tracks separate prevents an operational conversation from turning into an unsupported commitment.
Kim can tell procurement, “I have recorded the delayed training and its effect on your launch. I will bring the commercial owner your request for a credit. Today I can also confirm whether we can schedule the manager session and what success looks like after it.” Review the timeline with the delivery lead before the call. Make sure the recap says which actions are scheduled and which requests remain under evaluation.
