Set a Proof Plan Before Discussing Leadership Coaching Expansion
Keep a potential expansion separate from the evidence needed to renew a core seller program.
Interest in leadership coaching can be promising, yet a customer may need to establish confidence in the core seller program first. The renewal manager should respect that sequence. Ask what proof the enablement leader needs, whether current score data is calibrated, and who would sponsor a leadership program under its own budget cycle.
In a fictional conversation, enablement director Casey says, “Why discuss expansion when the current program is unsettled?” Renewal manager Rowan replies, “We can focus first on your proof threshold. What evidence would make the core program useful enough to renew?” Casey says, “Our score data has not been calibrated since launch.” Rowan answers, “Then a calibration review belongs before interpreting the results. After that, leadership development can decide whether its separate budget supports a small evaluation.” Casey asks, “Can managers use the same scorecard?” Rowan says, “We should test the manager behaviors and have the quality lead confirm what the rubric can support.”
The conversation turns expansion into a disciplined decision path. It also protects the customer from assuming that a seller measure answers a manager development question.
Practice by asking a partner to name an ambitious expansion idea. Respond with one proof question, one governance question, and one sponsor question. Review whether you kept the renewal decision clear while giving the future program a concrete route for evaluation.
