Answer AI Governance Questions With a Real Evaluation Plan
Turn broad AI concern into specific governance questions a buyer can evaluate.
The buyer moment
A risk leader says the company has paused all new AI tools.
An AI pause may follow a policy concern about uploaded data, human review, model output, procurement approval, or all four. Asking which clause applies lets the buyer turn a broad stop into a reviewable question. For example, an internal policy may permit a controlled workflow that assists employees while prohibiting customer data in an unapproved system. A seller can then bring factual product materials and let the buyer’s governance team interpret policy. That is more useful than offering general assurances about responsible AI.
A useful way to open
“That makes sense as a starting point. Which part of your policy is most relevant here: data use, model behavior, human review, or deployment approval?”
Move the decision forward
A blanket “AI ban” often contains several distinct concerns. The rep should not challenge the policy. Ask what triggered it, who owns the exception process, and what evidence would be needed to assess a use case.
Coach reps to replace reassurance with a structured path. Buyers trust clear boundaries more than sweeping claims about safety.
Practice before the next call
Practice with a buyer who says, “Legal will never approve this.” The rep must uncover the approval owner and the policy question without debating law.
Next step
Offer an evaluation checklist that maps the buyer’s stated concerns to approved product materials and internal reviewers.
