Supporting ETF Education When an Advisor Team Changes Platforms
Show ETF wholesalers how to help advisor teams learn during a platform transition without promising availability.
When an advisory team changes platforms, product questions often mix education with anxiety about access and workflows. A wholesaler can help the team prepare for its own approval process, but platform availability and trading rules belong to the platform and advisor firm. Clarifying that ownership makes the support more credible.
A branch leader says, “We are moving platforms next month. Will all our ETF models still work?” Answer, “I cannot confirm platform treatment on behalf of the new firm. Which models and educational gaps are most important for your team to review before the move?” If the leader names unfamiliar product categories, add, “I can run an approved education session on objectives, risks, and research documents. Your platform contact and home office can confirm eligibility and operational procedures.”
Do not guess from another platform’s list or say that a fund will trade, transfer, or retain a model designation. Ask whether the audience is advisors, operations staff, or a model committee. Build a session around the questions each group can answer: advisors may need fund education, while operations needs the platform’s procedures. Keep a list of unresolved availability questions for the designated platform contact.
For a team exercise, create a transition map with product education, platform verification, and client communication in separate columns. Ask the rep to assign an owner to each item. The review should reveal whether the wholesaler stayed inside an educational role and still gave the team a practical path through a disruptive change.
