Review Abrasive Disc Consumption Before Changing Reorder Levels
Help a distributor representative turn frequent stockouts into a useful consumption review.
Repeated abrasive disc stockouts can reflect a reorder setting, a change in work mix, or informal withdrawal from the supply point. A distributor representative should learn the use pattern before increasing inventory. The plant needs a clear view of demand and the service expectation it wants to set.
In a fictional account review, maintenance lead Ben says, “The weld shop runs out of flap discs every Friday. Double the bin quantity.” Representative Imani asks, “Which disc sizes run out, and did the shop add work or change material recently?” Ben says a new product uses thicker steel. Imani continues, “Can we compare the vending report with the job schedule for the last four weeks? I also want the supervisor’s view on whether people take discs from another area.” Ben agrees to bring the weld supervisor.
Imani has turned a requested quantity into a replenishment review based on facts. She can verify actual usage, lead time, and available stocking options after the required items are clear. The customer decides what service level fits the work pattern.
Practice asking for consumption evidence without sounding defensive. Request the item sizes, period of change, and person who understands the work mix. In your recap, state the report you will review and the decision the group will make from it.
