Revising an Account Plan After a Health System Acquisition
Use an acquisition notice to remap stakeholders, contracts, and decision ownership without assumptions.
An acquisition can make last quarter’s account map obsolete overnight. The strategic account manager should treat the announcement as a reason to verify ownership, rather than assuming the prior sponsor still controls purchasing, service, or clinical coordination.
System leader Asha says, “We are joining a larger network, so pause any renewal conversations.” Manager Ben replies, “I understand. Which decisions have moved already, and which contacts remain responsible while the transition is underway?” Asha names a new supply chain lead and says service stays local for now. Ben answers, “I will update the account map with those confirmed changes and send you a short list of open items for validation. I will wait for your team to confirm whether the new system’s contracts and review process apply.”
Ben’s response respects a sensitive change while preserving work the account needs. His list separates facts from questions: named owners, active agreements, pending orders, service cases, and upcoming reviews. It gives Asha something easy to correct without asking her to reconstruct the entire relationship.
When an account changes structure, schedule a validation call lasting thirty minutes before proposing expansion or renewal activity. Bring the old map, mark every assumption, and ask the customer to replace it. A manager can review whether the account plan now shows confirmed owners and dates instead of organizational guesses.
