Help a Teen Choose a Fragrance Gift Thoughtfully
Use scent discovery and policy facts to help a young shopper choose a gift with care.
When a teen asks for the strongest fragrance, resist turning the request into a promise about attention or popularity. A better conversation finds out what the recipient enjoys, whether scent sensitivity matters, and what sampling and return rules actually allow.
Invite the shopper to describe the recipient’s own preferences, such as whether they have ever mentioned fragrance or prefer fragrance free items. If the shopper mentions asthma, headaches, or another sensitivity, avoid judging suitability or suggesting a scent. Offer a fragrance free gift, a store credit, or a way for the recipient to choose. Confirm the policy for opened bottles through the approved source before quoting it.
In a fictional store visit, Imani says, “Which one makes everyone notice?” Associate Luis says, “I can help you choose a gift that respects your friend’s preferences. Have they said they enjoy fragrance?” Imani remembers that her friend has asthma and avoids perfume. Luis replies, “I cannot advise whether a fragrance is suitable for a health concern. A fragrance free gift, store credit, or a chance for your friend to choose may work better. If you have questions about health suitability, a clinician is the right person to ask. Here is the store’s policy for an opened bottle.”
Roleplay a gift shopper who wants a fast answer. The associate must ask about the recipient, identify a sensitivity cue, offer a nonfragrance choice, and explain one confirmed policy fact. Review whether the associate made any social promise or health judgment. Use language that helps the shopper make their own choice.
