Frame a data center diversity workshop
Help a network architect examine path diversity with records, constraints, and a validation plan.
Path diversity is often described as a requirement before anyone has agreed what paths exist. A Solutions Engineer can improve the design workshop by asking for current drawings, demarcation details, building entry points, and the workloads affected by an interruption. The customer then has a fact set that supports a design decision and a request for further validation.
Start by asking the architect to distinguish physical route information from logical network diagrams. Learn which applications run at the site, which recovery process applies, and who controls building access. Ask whether a carrier record, facilities drawing, or field survey is available for each claimed route. These sources may disagree, and that disagreement is useful to surface early.
“We need diverse routes into both data centers,” says the architect. Mei answers, “Which records show where the present routes enter the buildings?” He points to an old network diagram. Mei says, “That diagram helps us identify questions. Does facilities have entry drawings, and can a survey confirm the external path?” The architect names a facilities engineer. Mei adds, “Let’s document the workloads that rely on each site so the survey priorities reflect the operating risk.”
For practice, take a sample diagram and label every statement as observed, documented, or assumed. Build a short workshop agenda that asks for the source behind each important route claim. After the session, send a list of validation tasks with a named owner and expected evidence. That record helps the architect decide when the available facts are sufficient for design review.
