Use a test plan before a contact center SIP migration
Map call flows, number ownership, and failover evidence before setting a migration schedule.
A contact center SIP migration has too many dependencies for a zero interruption promise. The useful role of a solutions engineer is to map the complete call flow and turn it into a staged test plan. Overflow routing, an IVR provider, and number ownership each need evidence before a cutover discussion becomes credible.
Ask how calls enter the center, where overflow goes, which numbers customers use, and what should happen when the primary path fails. Request the authorized account records for each number early. A disputed toll free record can delay a port even when the technical design is ready. Ask the IVR vendor to confirm how its routing is tested.
In a fictional review, Grant, the voice platform manager, asks, “Can we migrate with zero interruption?” Rina says, “I cannot guarantee that outcome. We can reduce uncertainty by testing the call paths in stages. Let’s map inbound, overflow, and after hours routing, then verify who owns each number.” Grant says one toll free number belongs to a former division. Rina answers, “That ownership record becomes a separate work item. The technical team can prepare its test cases while the authorized owner resolves the porting record.”
The decision point is whether a desired date should become the test plan’s first input. Start with the call flows and acceptance evidence. The team can estimate a sequence after it knows which dependencies are open and which test must succeed before the next stage begins.
Practice by drawing a five step customer call path. Mark the owner at each handoff and one failure condition to test. Roleplay the zero interruption question. Ask for the number record and the IVR test contact, then review whether your proposed next step distinguishes technical testing from porting authorization.
