Turn a request for voice quality into a focused review of endpoints, carriers, and test conditions.
When a buyer asks whether a new voice service will work with every endpoint, a Solutions Engineer needs a disciplined answer. Compatibility depends on the devices, software versions, call paths, and settings in use. The productive move is to identify the call scenarios that matter and agree how the customer will validate them.
Ask for an endpoint inventory and a sample of recent problem calls. Learn whether users connect through desk phones, soft clients, conference equipment, or analog adapters. Ask which codecs are currently negotiated and where conversion occurs. These questions give the network architect a useful way to narrow the test scope.
Iris hears, “Can you assure us that every conference room will sound the same?” She replies, “I can help create the test list. Which rooms have caused complaints, and what equipment is in each one?” The architect names two rooms with different systems. Iris asks, “Who can provide their software versions and join a controlled call test?” He names the collaboration administrator. Iris proposes a matrix that records endpoint, path, call partner, and the person who will accept the result.
Create one test matrix before your next voice workshop. Populate it with only known devices, then leave blank rows for inventory gaps. Roleplay the moment when a customer seeks a blanket answer; practice returning to the test conditions without sounding evasive. Review the completed matrix with the customer and record which remaining questions require vendor or carrier confirmation.
