A concern about computing capacity deserves discovery before a research account executive frames an evaluation. Storage, access controls, processing windows, and local infrastructure may shape the evaluation plan. The account executive should collect the concern without assuring the bioinformatics director that the proposed platform will fit the current environment.
Begin with the director’s operational question. Ask which shared resources may be affected, who owns storage and access decisions, what workloads are already scheduled, and what information central IT needs to assess. Distinguish a product specification from a claim about a particular customer environment. An approved specification can inform the discussion; it cannot replace local technical review.
In a fictional call, the director says, “Can you guarantee the platform will fit our current environment?” The executive replies, “I cannot make that conclusion before the environment is reviewed. Could we map the storage, access, and processing constraints with your IT team, then have our technical specialist address the approved specifications?” The director adds that archived data and a monthly compute blackout are the main constraints. That changes the session from a generic demonstration to a scoped technical conversation.
Prepare a discovery note with four fields: the stated capacity concern, the unknown dependencies, the customer owners, and the requested review. Then rehearse the response to the guarantee question. A manager can listen for whether the executive names the limit plainly and earns a meeting with the people who can validate the environment.
