Frame a content migration evaluation
Help an institution define what it wants to move, review, and retire before estimating a course migration.
Content migration is a teaching and governance project as much as a technical task. The account executive should help the institution separate course files that can move from materials that faculty or accessibility staff need to review. That distinction makes the evaluation more honest and useful.
Dean Rosa says, "We have 1,200 courses in our old system. Can you move everything before summer?" Executive Devon replies, "We can start by learning what counts as active content and who approves it for the new environment. How many courses are actually scheduled for the fall?" Rosa says many shells have not been used in years. Devon asks, "Do faculty want historical material preserved, or do they need it rebuilt for current instruction?" Rosa says the disability services team also has concerns about old documents. Devon responds, "A technical import may transfer files, while content owners may need to review structure and accessibility. Let us create a sample set with faculty, instructional design, and disability services so the team can see the work involved."
Devon follows with a proposal for a sample review, an inventory owner, and a decision date. He avoids converting a file count into a completion claim. The institution can then decide which material deserves effort and which material should remain archived under its records practices.
Practice with a prospect who asks for a single migration date. Ask about active courses, approval owners, and materials that need review. Write a recap that identifies the sample set and its reviewers. Read it aloud to ensure it describes a decision process instead of an assumed project scope.
