Fintech SDR Discovery: Audit Evidence Requests Without the Fear Pitch
How fintech SDRs can discuss evidence collection workflows without implying compliance gaps or legal conclusions.
Audit evidence is a sensitive outreach topic. An SDR should not imply that a prospect has a compliance failure because someone spends time locating records. Instead, ask about the work of responding to a request: where it arrives, who gathers the information, and how the team knows its response is complete. Those questions respect the customer’s process and can uncover a real operational conversation.
For example, a controller says that requests at quarter end often involve several people. The SDR can reply, “When a reviewer asks for support for one payment, who usually receives that request first?” The controller explains that accounting exports a report, procurement finds an approval email, and an administrator locates the policy version. The SDR should not label this fragmented or risky. Ask what makes the team decide that the package is ready to send and whether one person coordinates the final response.
Use the answer to qualify a meeting. If the controller says the work is routine and fast, thank them and move on. If they describe repeated follow-up between teams, ask whether the people who prepare and review evidence would find a short workflow discussion useful. Repeat only what they said: “You mentioned the approval record lives with a different owner than the payment report.” That is a concrete reason to convene the right participants.
Coach with a boundary drill. Have a prospect say, “Are you suggesting our audit process is broken?” The SDR should answer, “No. I’m trying to understand how your team handles requests today.” Then they can ask one neutral handoff question. Score the response for calm language, a complete example, and no compliance conclusion. The SDR earns trust by learning how the team works and asking neutral questions.
