Fintech SDR Discovery: Learn From Corporate Card Offboarding
Ask about access transitions as a workflow, without implying security or policy failures.
Employee offboarding touches people operations, managers, finance, and sometimes card administrators. It is a useful outbound topic only when an SDR approaches it with care. Do not lead with a warning about misuse. Ask how the team coordinates a routine departure and where a final expense question goes.
At a fictional construction firm, a site supervisor leaves near the end of a project. People operations records the departure, the manager collects equipment, and finance later notices a receipt question connected to the supervisor’s card. The SDR asks, “When someone changes roles or leaves, which team confirms the finance tasks are complete?” The prospect says a shared checklist exists, but questions about cards are handled outside it. That answer identifies a handoff owner the team can clarify.
Ask whether the process differs for contractors, role changes, or travel expenses already in progress. Do not request card numbers, employee information, or internal access details. Do not state that any workflow will stop unauthorized activity. Keep the conversation focused on communication, recordkeeping, and the people who need visibility.
In practice, let a prospect answer, “HR owns that.” The SDR can say, “Understood. When finance has a remaining receipt or reimbursement question, how does HR know who should resolve it?” Coach for a respectful pause after the question. Ask whether the manager receives a final confirmation once the record is complete. If a real handoff emerges, invite the finance owner and contact in people operations to a focused discussion. The meeting should examine one departure workflow and its open questions, nothing more.
