Keep a Payments Migration Conversation Phased
Create a credible plan for merchants replacing payment infrastructure.
A migration between payment platforms touches checkout, finance reports, customer support, and release planning, even when the merchant wants a quick answer.
Ask the customer to name the transaction that would create the greatest customer impact if it failed during transition. Then ask what evidence would reassure the owner of that flow. A phased plan becomes real when it includes a protected journey, a test method, and a rollback question. Those facts are more helpful than a generic migration timeline.
Ask what forced the evaluation, which transaction flow cannot be interrupted, and what the team must prove before moving traffic. A fictional subscription company may begin with a new product line while its legacy subscribers remain on the existing flow.
Do not promise a cutover date or compatibility without technical and operational validation. Practice the objection “We cannot risk checkout.” Coach the seller to propose a limited evaluation rather than a full switch.
End with one protected workflow, one technical owner, and one review of migration evidence.
Ask the buyer to choose one protected checkout path. The AE should confirm its test owner and rollback question. A feature tour is not a substitute for that concrete migration conversation. Ask who can approve a limited traffic test and what customer communication would be needed if that test exposes an unexpected checkout behavior.
