Use Post-Trip Feedback to Improve the Next Planning Conversation
Help travel advisors collect specific post-trip feedback and carry useful preferences into a future planning discussion.
Feedback after the trip gives the next conversation a factual starting point. Ask about the decisions the advisor and traveler made together: pace, location, suppliers, room type, transfers, and amount of free time. Leave room for the traveler to describe a surprise that the original discovery missed.
Invite feedback after the traveler has had time to return home. Keep the request narrow enough to answer. Avoid treating one experience as proof that a whole destination or supplier will suit every future itinerary. Record a preference as the traveler’s reported experience and confirm it again when plans change.
Advisor Celia called Marcus after his Japan trip. “I’m planning a short review so I can serve you better next time. Which part of the itinerary gave you the most value?” Marcus said, “The neighborhood food tour was excellent, but changing hotels twice made the week feel rushed.” Celia asked, “Was the issue the packing, the travel time, or the hotel areas?” “Mostly packing,” Marcus said. “Next time I would stay in one base city longer.” Celia replied, “I’ll note that you preferred fewer hotel changes and enjoyed a small guided food activity. When you plan the next trip, I’ll ask whether those preferences still fit the destination and dates.”
Share a brief written recap with the traveler when appropriate, and let them correct the record. Do not assume a companion shares the same preferences unless they provide their own feedback.
Roleplay the call with a traveler who says, “Everything was fine.” Review whether the advisor asks one concrete follow-up and records an observation that can inform a later planning choice.
