Help a Guest Reach Emergency Support When Urgent Assistance Is Needed
Give guest experience managers a clear response for urgent situations that gets the guest to local emergency help immediately.
When a guest describes immediate danger or urgent medical distress, the first job is to connect them with local emergency help. Internal notifications and documentation follow without delaying that call. A guest experience manager should speak calmly, establish the location, and use the property’s emergency process while emergency support is being contacted.
Ask only what helps responders act: where the guest is, whether they are in immediate danger, and whether they can safely speak or unlock a door. Tell the guest what action is happening. Avoid diagnosing a condition, offering treatment advice, or asking them to wait while someone seeks approval. If the guest is on the phone and can call local emergency services, invite them to do so while the property activates its own response.
In a fictional call, Priya said, “My partner collapsed in the hallway outside room 614. I think something is seriously wrong.” Manager Lewis answered, “I am contacting local emergency services now and sending the property emergency team to the hallway on the sixth floor. Please stay where you are if it is safe, and tell me whether your partner is breathing.” Priya said yes but that he was unresponsive. Lewis replied, “Help is on the way. Keep the hallway clear if you can. I will remain with you while responders arrive.” He alerted security and the duty manager under the hotel procedure, then recorded the location and time for the responding team.
After emergency responders take over, protect the guest’s privacy. Share information only with people who need it for the emergency process. A manager practice should begin with a location prompt and a ticking clock. Review whether the manager named emergency help first, gave a direct action, and kept internal steps from slowing the response.
