Set a Production Schedule Freeze Review Before Discussing New Equipment

Frequent changes after a production schedule freezes can create shortages, expediting, and missed commitments. An industrial account executive should learn how the plant makes and changes its schedule before connecting the issue to a solution evaluation. The question is where decisions lose stability and who has authority to change them.

In a fictional meeting, supply chain director Marisol says, “Our schedule is frozen every Friday, yet sales changes it all week. We need a better planning system.” Executive Theo asks, “What qualifies as a freeze today, and which changes create the most disruption for production?” Marisol says rush orders and material shortages both trigger changes. Theo follows with, “Who approves a change, and how do planners record the cost of expediting or lost time?” Marisol names the sales operations leader and master scheduler. Practice asking about the current freeze rule without criticizing it. Request examples of changed orders and ask who approved each one. End with a clear invitation that names the schedule records and stakeholders needed for the review.
