Discover Service Launch Readiness Before Recommending a Plan
A business development director can qualify a new service launch by learning the launch decision, handoffs, and evidence leaders need.
A planned service launch can create pressure for a polished roadmap before leaders agree on what must be ready. The director can qualify the opportunity by separating the launch date from the decisions required to support it. Commercial, delivery, technology, and support teams may each hold a different part of the readiness picture.
Ask what customer promise the launch will make, who authorizes the release, and what evidence leaders will use to judge readiness. Learn which handoffs have been tested and which remain assumptions. This grounds the discussion in the client’s operating choices.
In a fictional call, chief revenue officer Paige says, “We need a launch plan by Friday because sales has already announced the service.” Director Andre replies, “We can help organize the readiness questions. What must be true for the first customer to receive the service as described, and who can confirm each part?” Paige says delivery has not confirmed its staffing approach and support has not seen the customer workflow. Andre proposes a working session with the service owner, delivery lead, support lead, and sales operations manager. “The group can identify the launch decisions, evidence owners, and open handoffs,” he says.
For a practice drill, choose a launch request and list the first customer experience from sale through support. Mark the owner at every handoff and circle the ones based on assumption. Roleplay the Friday deadline objection. Review whether you earned a working session that produces decisions and evidence the client can assess.
