Turn CRM Activity Into Better Manager Deal Inspection
Use a workflow review to address weak deal inspection when CRM completion looks healthy.
High CRM completion tells a sales operations director that fields are being filled in. It does not show whether a manager can test a seller’s deal strategy or improve the next customer interaction. An enablement account executive should make that difference visible without dismissing the value of clean data.
Ask to see the forecast agenda, a completed opportunity, and the question a manager asks when a next step is weak. Often the missing element is a coaching moment inside an existing meeting. Managers may have dashboards but no shared method for using them to inspect assumptions, stakeholders, or customer commitments.
In a fictional call, Sam says, “Your CRM vendor reports excellent adoption. When a manager sees a next step due Friday, what do they ask the seller?” Lee, the sales operations director, answers, “Usually whether the date is updated.” Sam responds, “Could we review three opportunities and listen for the question behind the field: who agreed to the meeting, what will be decided, and what evidence supports that? We can see where a brief inspection belongs in the Friday forecast.” Lee says, “Forecast already consumes the hour.” Sam replies, “Then the workshop should protect ten minutes of that hour and test whether managers can use it consistently.”
This keeps the focus on a specific workflow. It also prevents the platform conversation from becoming a claim that more meetings will fix weak inspection.
Practice with a sample opportunity record. Play the manager and ask three questions that reveal the deal strategy and the customer action behind each entry. Have an observer mark which question leads the seller to name a customer action. Use that observation to refine the forecast agenda.
