Rehearse Discovery for an Executive Sales Meeting
Help enterprise sellers balance a point of view with questions that test it in a senior buyer conversation.
Senior buyers rarely invite a seller to spend twenty minutes collecting basic facts. That constraint does not remove discovery; it raises the quality required. An enablement consultant can help an enterprise team rehearse a concise point of view followed by questions that test whether it fits the executive’s priorities.
Start with the meeting preparation. Ask what the account team believes is changing, what evidence supports that belief, and what decision the executive may influence. Look at whether account plans are reviewed before senior meetings. A thoughtful question gains value when the seller can explain why it matters.
In a fictional workshop, consultant Imani asks, “What makes your team feel discovery will waste an executive’s time?” Priya, the enterprise leader, says, “Executives expect us to arrive informed.” Imani responds, “Good preparation gives you a useful hypothesis. How could a seller test it in one question?” A seller offers, “We see growth plans often strain approval cycles. Is that showing up in your expansion?” Imani asks the group, “What answer would change your agenda?” Priya says, “That feels more credible than a list of generic questions.”
Roleplay feels artificial when it lacks the pressure of a real account. Use an upcoming executive meeting, a short agenda, and the actual stakeholders. Give the buyer permission to challenge the hypothesis or redirect the conversation.
For practice, have each seller prepare one observation, one question, and one follow-up for a live account. The observer should record whether the follow-up changes the seller’s assumption. Managers can review the recordings before the meeting and coach the preparation as well as the delivery.
