Use a Regional Expansion to Open an Enablement Conversation
Give SDRs a concise way to explore manager coaching during sales expansion.
A regional expansion creates new manager responsibilities, new customer situations, and pressure to make the selling motion consistent. An SDR can use that visible change as a reason to ask a focused question. The outreach should invite the revenue leader to describe their plan instead of claiming that training will solve the expansion.
Jordan calls a vice president who announced a new region. “I saw your team is opening in the Northeast,” he says. “When managers bring new sellers into that market, how are they checking whether discovery conversations match the local buyer?” The vice president replies, “We have a playbook, but each manager is doing it differently.” Jordan says, “That sounds worth a short conversation with whoever owns enablement. Would a manager practice review be useful to explore?”
The trigger is only a starting point. Research the announced change and keep the message tied to an observable coaching question: readiness, manager consistency, or feedback on new calls. Do not assume the company is hiring, changing its method, or experiencing a performance issue. The prospect may say the expansion has no effect on enablement, which is useful information for deciding whether to step back.
Write three opening questions for one company that is expanding. Read them aloud and remove claims you cannot verify. In roleplay, let a colleague say the region is handled by partners or that no sellers are being added. Practice a graceful response that asks who owns the relevant motion or closes the conversation politely. Review your research notes after each call and record the answer to your hypothesis.
