Reach Out When New Managers Need Coaching Routines
Open a specific SDR conversation after a company promotes frontline sales managers.
Promoting strong sellers into management can create a new coaching need, but an SDR should not assume those managers lack skill. A good outreach message connects the visible promotion to a question about support, observation, and leadership ownership. It gives the prospect room to explain what already exists.
Kira writes to a sales development leader: “Congratulations on the manager promotions. When new managers begin their first one to ones, how do they learn what useful feedback sounds like on a real call?” The leader replies, “We have leadership sessions, but call coaching varies.” Kira says, “Would it be helpful to compare the current manager routine with a few observed calls? I can arrange a conversation with our enablement specialist.”
Use public information carefully. A promotion announcement may describe a title change without saying whether the person manages sellers. Before contacting someone, check their role and identify the leader responsible for manager development. Keep the first message short. One credible question is stronger than a paragraph about every possible benefit of coaching technology.
Choose a recent leadership announcement and draft a message under seventy words. Ask a teammate to play a recipient who says the promoted people already completed training. Respond by asking how managers practice feedback after the course. Then decide whether the answer supports a meeting. Track which question earned a substantive response so your team can improve the next outreach sequence.
