Support accessible device choices while protecting account consent
Guide a caregiver toward device options and account authorization for an older parent.
A caregiver may know an older parent’s daily needs well, yet the parent remains the account holder. A retail sales consultant can be helpful by exploring accessibility features while keeping account access and changes within the customer’s authorization process. This protects privacy and keeps the conversation respectful.
Ask what tasks are difficult today. Larger text, voice control, hearing support, charging, and emergency contacts can matter more than a long feature list. Explain that features vary by device and setup. Then clarify who owns the account and what access the caregiver currently has. If the account holder is absent and the caregiver lacks the account PIN, do not open private account details.
In a fictional store visit, Claire says, “Can you access my mother’s account for me? She needs a simpler phone.” Jordan responds, “I can show devices with larger display and accessibility settings, and I can explain how setup support works. Account changes need your mother or an authorized access method. What tasks are hardest for her when she uses her current phone?” Claire describes tiny text and forgotten codes. Jordan says, “Let’s compare two devices using larger text and voice options. We can also plan a visit with your mother so she can choose and authorize any account change.”
The decision is whether the request involves product guidance or account action. Offer guidance immediately when appropriate. Move account changes through the right consent path.
Practice by roleplaying a caregiver who asks for full account access. Respond with empathy, one question about accessibility, and a sentence explaining authorization. Review whether you gave useful help without discussing protected account details or promising that a device will be easy for every person.
