Run an accessible device demonstration with shopper consent
Give shoppers room to try accessibility features while protecting their account choices and privacy.
An accessibility conversation should follow the shopper’s stated preferences. The consultant can demonstrate available device features, explain the plan and account steps in plain language, and pause before changing any settings or account information. Consent matters because a helpful demonstration can involve personal data, passwords, or choices another account holder controls.
Pat says, “My father needs larger text and a simpler way to answer calls. Can you set it all up for him?” Chen responds, “We can look at the device features together and let him try them. Is he the account holder, or is someone else authorized to make account changes?” Pat says her father is present and her sister manages the account. Chen says, “Let’s begin with display and call settings he wants to test. If an account change is needed, we will confirm who is authorized and explain the available steps before we submit anything.”
Offer the device in a comfortable position and let the shopper control the pace. Describe what each setting changes before touching it. When account activity is involved, follow the approved identity and consent process. A family member can help communicate preferences when the shopper wants that help.
Roleplay a demonstration with a teammate. Practice asking permission before each setting change. Then ask the shopper to show you the feature they selected, which reveals whether the explanation was clear enough to use later.
