Create a distributor lead follow up agreement
Use lead details and response ownership to make distributor follow up easier to review.
Lead handoffs between a distributor and partner can fade when the receiving seller lacks context. A Channel Manager should agree what information travels with the lead, who contacts the prospect, and how the parties record the response. This gives both parties a shared operating task with clear ownership.
Ask how the lead was generated, whether the prospect agreed to follow up, what product interest was recorded, and which partner is eligible to receive it. Confirm the approved process for sharing contact information. Then agree on the first outreach owner and a date for reviewing the outcome.
“We sent ten leads last month and heard nothing,” says the distributor manager. Cole asks, “What context did the partner receive with each lead, and did the contact consent to a follow up?” She says the records include event interest but no owner has checked them. Cole replies, “Let’s choose two leads, verify their details through the channel process, and assign a seller to each. At our next review we can examine the actual responses and improve the handoff.” She agrees to include the partner sales lead.
Practice by taking a sample lead and identifying its source, consent status, seller owner, and next date. Roleplay a partner asking for a list without context. Explain why the account record and follow up agreement matter. After a real handoff, review the two parties’ notes together and correct the process where information or ownership was missing.
