“That’s not enough for my trade.”
Tell me what you were expecting. … Okay. Can I show you what we’re seeing? Here’s what similar ones are actually selling for, and here’s what it’ll take to get yours front-line ready.
Show, don’t assert. Numbers on paper beat opinions.

KBB is a great starting point — it’s a range, and it assumes a condition grade most trades don’t hit. Which condition did you select? Let’s walk the car together and I’ll show you where our number comes from.
“I’ll just sell it myself.”
You absolutely can, and you’d probably get more for it. Worth knowing what you’re trading for: the listing, the tire kickers, the strangers at your house, and the sales tax credit you’d give up. If you still come out ahead, sell it privately — I mean that.
“I owe more than it’s worth.”
That’s really common right now, and it’s not a dealbreaker. Let’s find out exactly how much and whether it works better rolled in or paid down. Do you know your payoff, or should we call and get it?

Totally fine. Just so I know how to structure the numbers — are you keeping it for another driver, or is it more that you don’t think we’d give you a fair shot at it?
The second answer is the real one about 60% of the time.
