Leading a Client Review During a Transition Manager Engagement
Help portfolio specialists explain a transition manager engagement through roles, documents, and clear follow-through.
A client transition can generate questions that span portfolio management, operations, custody, and governance. The portfolio specialist should explain the firm’s role with precision and identify what the client needs from each party. A careful review does not promise timing or cost outcomes that depend on the transition process and client instructions.
A committee chair says, “Will the manager change be seamless?” The specialist replies, “I understand why continuity matters. Which transition milestones and service risks has the committee asked to monitor?” After hearing that the custodian schedule is still pending, the specialist says, “I can summarize the approved transition responsibilities and bring in the appropriate operations contact for the open items. Would it help to list the committee’s required updates before the next meeting?” The chair receives a plan without a vague assurance.
Distinguish the strategy’s investment process from settlement, custody, and the duties of a transition manager. If the client asks for an exact date, identify the operating owner rather than estimate. Use approved information and state what must be confirmed. Notes should capture the client’s governance date, required reports, escalation contacts, and unresolved dependencies.
Practice with a handoff board: client, custodian, transition manager, operations, and portfolio team. Give each a question and ask the rep to route it aloud. A manager should listen for false ownership claims. The strongest review closes with a written schedule of who will answer what, so the client can track progress through a complicated change.
