Light Tower Extension

An extension request has two customers in view: the caller who needs more time and anyone awaiting the same unit. Start with the agreement number, current return date, requested end date, site contact, and the reason the job shifted. Ask whether the unit has been inspected recently and whether the caller knows of any damage or access change. Those answers allow the branch to review the reservation and any contract terms before anyone states a new return date.

Delia called from a paving project. “Rain cost us two nights. Please just give us the light tower through Friday.” Ben said, “I’ll check whether the unit is committed after its current return date. Is it operating normally, and can your site contact confirm access if a branch representative needs to review it?” Delia said the tower was working, but a weekend closure would lock the yard. Ben replied, “I’ll record the Friday request and the closure details, then ask the branch to review the unit’s next reservation and your account terms. I will call after that review with the available options.”

Ben avoids treating schedule pressure as authority to change the rental. He also gives the branch facts that affect inventory planning and a possible collection. If an extension is unavailable after review, the customer has time to discuss a return arrangement before the original date passes.

Use a calendar during practice. Give the caller a request that overlaps another reservation and a site that closes early. Explain the review sequence in plain language, then ask the caller to repeat the next step. Listen for accidental promises about price, waiver, or inventory. A strong call ends with a documented request, a reachable site contact, and a time for the coordinator’s update.
