Finding Useful Measures of the Current Workflow in Healthcare Discovery
Ask healthcare leaders for observable workflow measures before building a commercial value discussion.
A healthcare value discussion gains credibility when it starts with measures the organization can recognize and validate. The account executive should ask how a workflow is observed today, who owns the data, and what leaders use to judge improvement. Do not turn an early conversation into a promise about savings, clinical results, or regulatory status.
“Your team says we have too much rework,” a finance leader tells Ava. “What would you measure?” Ava replies, “Before suggesting a measure, I would like to understand how your team currently sees the work. Which reports do you trust, who maintains them, and what decision will the measure support?” The leader says they track staff time unevenly. “That is useful context,” Ava says. “We can document what is available, what needs validation, and whether operations and finance agree on a baseline before discussing a business case.”
Write down the measure, source owner, time period, and known limitations. A vendor estimate can be labeled as an assumption until the customer validates it. If leaders ask for clinical evidence, route that request through approved materials and the appropriate specialist rather than expanding commercial claims.
Practice with a mock buyer who offers one unreliable report and one trusted operational dashboard. Ask the representative to identify the owner and decision purpose for each. Review whether they gained useful evidence without claiming what the evaluation will prove.
