In a fictional meeting, controls engineer Sofia asks, “Can you migrate this without shutting down, and will the new system use our current recipes?” Engineer Darnell says, “Those questions depend on the present architecture. Where are approved recipes recorded, and which interlocks use the remaining I/O?” Sofia explains that operations keeps recipes in a historian and the PLC has little spare capacity. Darnell replies, “Let’s review electrical drawings, the PLC backup, and approved recipe records with process operations and IT security. We can identify interfaces and define phases for the authorized change process.”
The response preserves the customer’s need for continuity while avoiding a promise about downtime or recipe transfer. A phased assessment can identify what must be verified before any work is scheduled.

Finish by naming the documents needed and the functions that must review them. The exercise is successful when the rep can explain why the next meeting is technical discovery rather than a commitment to a migration plan.
