Gather the Right Inputs for a CNC Coolant Filtration Review
A technical sales conversation for documenting machine, fluid, and interface requirements before configuration.
An inconsistent coolant condition warrants investigation. The technical sales engineer needs verified details about the machines, fluid, interfaces, and plant constraints before engineering can evaluate a filtration configuration.
Manufacturing engineer Jorge says, “We have five machines and dirty coolant. Which model fits?” Engineer Mei replies, “I can start the technical review with the machine manuals, current coolant analyses, and cell layout. Do all five machines use the same chemistry and return arrangement?” Jorge explains that two coolant chemistries are used and that maintenance has not documented the contamination source. Mei says, “Let’s record each machine’s interface, available utilities, and fluid data. I will document those assumptions for engineering, then we can define the acceptance conditions for a proposed configuration.”
Mei has avoided diagnosing contamination from an abbreviated description. She also has not asked the plant to change its coolant supplier. The next review can address the real design questions: what enters the system, what must connect to the cell, and what evidence will demonstrate that the configuration meets the agreed requirements.
For coaching, hand the engineer an incomplete machine list and ask for the first five clarification questions. Review whether each question produces a specification, constraint, or acceptance criterion. A useful call note identifies the source document for every technical value and flags unknowns for engineering review.
