Frame a Plant Water Use Review With Process and Meter Facts
Help an industrial account executive qualify a concern about water use before suggesting an improvement project.
Rising water bills may stem from production volume, cleaning cycles, cooling equipment, or a leak that the plant has not located. An industrial account executive should establish what the meters show before framing an improvement project. The people who understand process demand and utility records need to define the problem together.
In a fictional call, facilities director Ken says, “Our water costs jumped and leadership wants a reduction plan.” Executive June asks, “Which meters changed, and did production volume or cleaning schedules change during the same months?” Ken says the main meter increased after a new wash station began operating. June continues, “Who can explain the wash schedule, and who keeps the utility invoices and meter readings?” Ken names the sanitation manager and energy analyst. June says, “Let’s review three months of records with them and identify the process questions an assessment should answer.”
June has given the plant a disciplined starting point. The review can separate a billing pattern from a process condition and show where additional measurement may help. Any savings estimate requires evidence from the plant’s own operations and an approved evaluation.
Practice responding to a request for a reduction figure. Ask about meter boundaries, operating changes, and data owners. Then summarize the records needed for a working session and the decision the group expects to make after reviewing them.
