Enablement Account Executive: Executive Change Plan
How an account executive can preserve a coaching evaluation during an executive transition.
A chief revenue officer leaving can interrupt approval without removing the coaching issue that started an evaluation. An account executive should protect the facts already gathered and avoid treating an interim leader as a substitute decision maker. A clear transition record gives the next executive a fast way to understand the work, its limits, and the choices still open.
Luis hears, “Our CRO left yesterday, so stop this project.” He replies, “I understand the approval path changed. Which manager work needs to continue while the search runs?” The vice president says discovery reviews still matter because the company is entering a new market in six weeks. Luis asks, “May I preserve the agreed scorecard, the call samples, and the pilot dates in a brief for your interim leader? We can mark the rollout decision for the incoming CRO.”
The distinction protects both sides. Keeping observation work alive can prevent the team from losing a baseline, while a wider commitment may require a leader with authority over priorities and budget. The account executive should also check whether a departing sponsor owned a meeting, a data request, or a deadline that now lacks an accountable person.
Build a handover brief with one page of confirmed facts, open questions, dated commitments, and an owner beside every item. Include the source for each statement so a new leader can verify it. Roleplay an abrupt executive exit with a colleague. Ask what work can continue, what decision must wait, and who can validate the record. Review the brief before sending it and remove any claim that no one can substantiate.
