Include Seller Voices in a Coaching Evaluation
Plan a representative council that gives enablement leaders useful input before a training rollout.
Enablement leaders can design a polished program and still miss the moments sellers find difficult. A representative council gives the evaluation a direct line to field experience. The account executive should frame the council as a source of discovery, with a clear purpose and limits. Sellers can describe obstacles and test scenarios; leadership still owns program decisions.
In a fictional planning session, Jordan tells Mei, an enablement vice president, “Our leaders agree on discovery training, but reps say the scripts feel detached from live deals.” Mei asks, “Are you suggesting a survey?” Jordan replies, “A small council may give richer examples. Which sellers hear the objections your managers want to address?” Mei names enterprise and commercial reps. Jordan asks, “Could each bring one anonymized conversation moment and tell us what they needed to decide?” Mei says yes, then asks who should approve the final material. Jordan suggests product marketing and sales leadership review the scenarios after the council.
The council works when the questions are narrow. Ask what sellers hear, what they struggle to explain, and what a helpful manager response sounds like. Keep the session away from individual performance judgments. The output should be a list of scenario ideas, buyer language, and open questions for the people who govern training content.
Try a five minute roleplay in which a seller says, “Leadership never understands the field.” Invite an example, then ask what decision the seller faced. Write down the buyer words without editing them. This practice builds the listening habit that makes a council feel useful and gives your customer a clear way to involve the field.
