Surface Competing Priorities in an Enablement Evaluation
Help a buyer decide whether coaching belongs beside other revenue initiatives.
An executive sponsor can support better coaching while facing a territory redesign, a product release, and a hiring plan. Treating every stated interest as an immediate project makes the evaluation less useful. An account executive should help the sponsor name the choices and decide what evidence would justify attention now.
Nora asks a chief sales officer, “You mentioned manager coaching and the territory redesign. Which decision becomes harder if it waits until next quarter?” The officer says, “Managers will need to coach new territories, but the redesign is absorbing their attention.” Nora replies, “Then we can explore whether a small manager pilot supports that transition. We should also establish what would make you postpone it.” The officer names a completed territory assignment plan and a regional sponsor.
This approach respects competing work and focuses the conversation on the sponsor’s decision. Capture the sponsor’s stated priority, the event that creates urgency, and the condition that would change the decision. If coaching is only a broad aspiration, offer a later check in. If it connects to an active change, ask who can protect manager time for a limited evaluation.
Before your next executive call, write two hypotheses about where coaching fits in the customer’s calendar. Roleplay each with a teammate who challenges the urgency. Listen for moments where you assume the answer. Then bring one simple question to the buyer: “What work would this need to support for you to give it attention this quarter?” Record the answer in the account plan with the owner who can validate it.
