Review channel forecasts using customer decision evidence
Help channel leaders distinguish qualified opportunities, duplicates, and pending decision gates in a forecast.
A partner forecast is credible when it reflects what the customer has actually decided and what still depends on others. The channel manager can strengthen the review by asking for close date evidence, sponsor engagement, approval gates, and attribution. This protects the partner from carrying the same opportunity twice through a distributor and reseller report.
Ravi, a channel sales director, says, “Count these deals for the quarter. We need the number.” Claire replies, “Let’s inspect the evidence for each material opportunity. Which customer has a confirmed decision date, which one is awaiting an approval, and which reports may describe the same account?” Ravi says one deal awaits board approval and two are listed by both a distributor and a reseller. Claire says, “We will record the board decision as a gate and reconcile the account attribution with channel operations. Then the forecast can show the current stage and the next fact needed for each deal.”
Use a review table with account, customer need, sponsor, decision date evidence, approval gate, reporting partner, and next owner. Treat missing evidence as a coaching topic. The goal is to make the next partner action visible, such as gaining sponsor access or confirming a board meeting date.
Bring one forecast to a peer review and ask them to challenge a close date. Respond with the customer evidence you have. If you cannot name it, write the question that the partner seller needs to answer before the next forecast call.
