Qualify partner network opportunities before campaign planning
Help a partner leader replace vague pipeline entries with customer evidence and next actions.
A partner leader who asks for campaign funds may have a promising pipeline, yet a list of company names does not show which opportunities deserve joint investment. A channel manager can protect the relationship by reviewing evidence with the partner and identifying the enablement or discovery actions that will improve opportunity quality.
Ask for the customer problem, identified sponsor, next meeting, and reason the opportunity matters now. A large deal without an IT sponsor has a different status from a qualified project with a documented network need. New partner representatives may need coaching on discovery questions before they can supply this evidence consistently.
In a fictional account review, Victor says, “Can you fund a campaign this quarter? We need more network opportunities.” Harper replies, “I want to understand where the current opportunities stand so we can choose a useful investment. Could we review the customer need, sponsor, and next step for the five largest entries?” Victor says a major deal has no identified IT sponsor. Harper answers, “That entry may need a sponsor discovery action before it belongs in a campaign plan. Let’s also identify where your new reps need enablement, then build the request around qualified targets.”
The decision is whether to use pipeline volume or opportunity evidence when planning joint activity. Evidence gives both teams a reason for the investment and a way to evaluate whether the follow up created better conversations.
Practice by taking three fictional opportunities and scoring each for need, stakeholder, and next action. Roleplay the question about campaign funding. Explain one gap without criticizing the partner, then agree on an action the partner owns before the next review.
