Discuss trade in condition before quoting device value
Help shoppers understand inspection and plan eligibility before they choose a new device.
An online trade in estimate can become confusing when a shopper arrives with damage that was not included in the estimate. A retail sales consultant should explain the inspection process and promotion terms before discussing a final value. That gives the shopper enough information to decide whether to proceed, repair the device, or consider another option.
Ask the shopper what condition they entered online and inspect the stated areas according to the approved process. A cracked camera lens may affect the assessment even if the screen appears intact. Review whether the promotion requires an eligible installment plan and which other terms apply. Avoid inventing exceptions or treating a preliminary estimate as a confirmed value.
In a fictional store conversation, Kiara says, “The website said I would get the full value. Can you honor that quote?” Owen replies, “The estimate reflects the condition entered online. I can walk through the inspection criteria with you, and the final value is confirmed after assessment. I also want to show the installment plan requirement for this promotion before you choose a device.” Kiara says she did not mention a cracked camera lens. Owen responds, “Let’s include that in the condition review so you can see the complete basis for the assessment.”
The decision point is whether the shopper understands both the device condition and the promotion eligibility. Make both visible before asking for a commitment. This prevents a later surprise and lets the customer compare options with the relevant facts.
Practice by using a fictional phone with a cracked lens and a scratched screen. Explain the difference between an estimate and an assessment. Then roleplay the request to honor the online amount. Review whether you stayed precise, described the inspection path, and avoided a promise about the final trade in value.
