Earn an ETF Investment Committee Next Step Respectfully
Move from advisor interest to a committee conversation with useful preparation.
Interest from one advisor does not mean an investment committee is ready for a product discussion. A good wholesaler finds out what the committee must decide, which materials it expects, and whether the advisor wants education or a formal review. This prevents a meeting from becoming a generic presentation.
Ask, “What would make a committee session worthwhile for your team?” An advisor may say the group needs to understand methodology, compare implementation choices, or address a question raised by compliance. Then ask who will attend and what they already know. The answers determine whether an issuer specialist, a resource from capital markets, or an approved document set is appropriate.
Imagine an advisor says the committee meets monthly but has not added the fund to its agenda. The wholesaler responds, “Would it help if we first supplied the prospectus and methodology summary, then you decide whether a committee discussion is warranted?” That gives the advisor control over the process. If the advisor requests a meeting, confirm its purpose and explain that the group will evaluate information through its own process.
Coach for a clear meeting brief: attendees, decision question, source materials, open questions, and desired follow-up. Do not use urgency based on market movements or claim that delay creates lost returns. If the committee declines, thank the practice and ask how it prefers to receive future factual updates. A respectful next step supports advisor governance and makes future conversations more useful.
