Build a Tank Level Instrument Acceptance Plan Before Installation
Show a technical sales engineer how to define acceptance evidence for a tank level instrument.
A level instrument can be technically suitable on paper while still failing the plant’s installation or operating needs. A technical sales engineer should define how the customer will assess performance before installation. The plan should address process conditions, mounting, signal use, and the people who accept the result.
In a fictional workshop, process engineer Drew says, “We need a level sensor for this resin tank and want to install it during the next outage.” Engineer Alina asks, “What material properties, temperature range, and vessel geometry does the instrument need to handle?” Drew says the resin can coat the tank wall. Alina continues, “How will operators use the signal, and what reading would the process team consider acceptable at high and low level?” Drew names the controls engineer and operator lead. Alina says, “Let’s document those criteria with the drawing and have our engineering team review the application before a configuration is selected.”
Alina has established a proof plan that the plant can own. She does not certify an application from an initial description or approve an installation. The customer’s engineering process can use the documented criteria to assess the proposed arrangement.
Practice asking for acceptance criteria after the customer gives a model number. Seek the process range, mounting facts, and user of the signal. Review your recap for a clear statement of the drawings and owners required before engineering review.
